This is a blend of small ground dried chili. The distinction between cayenne and other chili powders is not great but cayenne is typically finer and can be used as a condiment on the table like salt and pepper. It is thought to be named after the cayenne region of French Guiana. It is major component to many spicy Creole and Cajun dishes.
