Sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum) are flat, tear-shaped and come in black and white. Black sesame seeds have their hulls in tact and white sesame is when its hull is removed. White seeds are sprinkled on breads and biscuits. Black sesame seeds are popular in Asian cooking and used in desserts.
