In French, Piment D'Espelette translates to “pepper of Espelette” traditionally produced around the town of Espelette in the Basque region of southern France.  This pepper has a robust sweet spicy taste and has gradually replaced black pepper in everyday Basque cooking. Â
We also have a locally grown version called Piment De Ville from Mendocino County, California. Â Grown from the same seeds of piment d'Espelette, it is wonderfully spicy. Â
